BBA was founded in 2015 by a group of young Black Detroiters who saw themselves missing from the contemporary visions of a “New Detroit,” BBA was born and continues on 10 years later as a thriving living archive for intergenerational Black Detroiters to connect, reflect, and celebrate their Black Detroit legacies. Join us on February 8th for the launch of our exhibit, “10 Years Black 10 Years Forward,” in collaboration with the Detroit Historical Museum. Our 10th Anniversary Exhibit highlights the journey of Black Bottom Archives through zines, oral histories, podcasts, photos, and interactive displays. Learn how we evolved from a tumblr page to an ever-growing community archive that documents past and present Black Detroit legacy. This exhibit invites visitors to honor the past, engage in the present, and imagine the future of Black Bottom Archives as a living testament to the power of community.
